Newbury 4 Reading Ladies 2

| The game started somewhat tentatively with neither team gaining the upper hand. Newbury had several changes in personel this week with a number of changes from the previous week. Newbury lined up again this week with Leanne Creese at full back and, with Line Ejlersen available for her first game this season, captain Gemma Povey played in the unusual position for her of left back. Elli Reed also played in a new position for her of central midfield, with Lauren Sheldon coming in at right midfield. Karen Churchill made a welcome return to lead the attack. Once the Newbury players settled they started to dominate the game. and it was Holly Phillips who opened the scoring, heading in, from close range, a cross from Karen Churchill wide on the right on the quarter hour. With Newbury now dominating the first half Karen made it 2-0 with a characteristic shot over the keeper's head on 30 minutes. Leanne was making powerfull runs to the corner and from one of her crosses, which was parried by the keeper, Elli Reed was on hand to head the ball into the net for Newbury's third before half time
The second half saw Newbury go off the boil somewhat and Reading come back into the game. Some indecisive Newbury defending allowed Reading to score which encouraged them leading to a second goal for Reading with about 15 minutes left. This could have caused Newbury's heads to drop but it had the opposite effect and once again they started to play with some precision. With 10 minutes to go substitute Zoe Davie played a pinpoint diagonal ball to Karen Churchill who, with typical skill, beat the keeper to secure the win for Newbury.
